SABiosciences Launches New PCR Kits Disease Gene Expression Research
01 Jul 2010: The new RT2 Profiler PCR arrays from SABiosciences are ideal for gene expression profiling in nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicology, differentiation and embryonic stem cells markers as well as analysis of epigenetic modulators and enzymes. Now covering more than 100 pathways, the PCR arrays enable scientists to accurately analyze the gene expression in research areas such as cancer, stem cells, biomarker discovery and immunology.

Pittcon to Participate in International Year of Chemistry (IYC)
22 Jun 2010: Extra activities to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) at Pittcon 2011 have been announced. The extra programs include Science Week, which will serve the city of Atlanta and surrounding diagnostic-tests-/-kits, and on a more global level, and the Technical Program, which will include sessions on how chemical research is critical for solving global problems involving food, water, health, energy and transportation.

Characterization of Ion Channels in Stem Cell-derived Cardiomyocytes on An Automated Parallel Patch Clamp System
22 Jun 2010: In this application note Molecular Devices use the PatchXpress 7000A automated parallel patch clamp system is used to record Na, K and Ca currents from stem cell-derived mouse cardiomyocytes. The collaborative effort demonstrates that the combination of “ready-to-use” cardiomyocytes with an automated patch clamp system offers a powerful assay platform for fast assessment of compound efficacy and for safety profiling of lead compounds in a biologically relevant system.

Leica Microsystems to Develop an Automated HER2 FISH Test with the Leica BOND Staining Platform
22 Jun 2010: Leica Microsystems GmbH and Abbott have reached an agreement for Abbott to supply fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) probes that target the HER2 gene locus. The probes will be used to develop a fully automated FISH solution for HER2 testing on the Leica Microsystems’ BOND™ an automated advanced staining platform.

Expansion and Differentiation of H7 Human Embryonic Stem Cells in Chemically Defined Medium Using Corning® Synthemax™ Surface
21 Jun 2010: In this application note Corning Synthemax Surface is used to support long-term self-renewal and differentiation of H7 hESCs. Cells demonstrated a stable doubling time, high level of expression of hESC phenotypic markers (Oct4, SSEA4 and TRA-1-60) and normal karyotype. Corning Synthemax Surface also supported successful directed differentiation of H7 cells into functional cardiomyocytes, proving suitability of Corning Synthemax Surface for both expansion and differentiation of hESC culture.

Human Oncostatin M is Functionally Equivalent to Mouse LIF in Supporting Mouse ES Cell Pluripotency & Germline Competency
21 Jun 2010: In this application note R&D Systems demonstrate human OSM is able to maintain ES cell pluripotency in a similar manner to mouse LIF, including long-term maintenance of pluripotency and the ability to differentiate in vitro, the ability to activate STAT3, and germline transmission competency. The study suggests that OSM may be an additional factor that plays a role in early embryonic development and that it may be used as an alternative to LIF in mouse ES cell culture.
